3 Point Anti Reverse

The first reels to incorporate the
3 P-A-R (three point anti-reverse) mechanism are now on offer from Okuma.

Keen and experienced angler's will immediately understand the great benefit of not needing to continually 'finger the rotor' or struggle to release the anti-reverse lever to pay line when not wanting to rely on the drag setting.

 

Until now there was only two ways of stopping the reel handle 'back spinning' on a sudden take or when you strike - and both have there disadvantages:-

'Fingering the rotor', i.e. keeping your hand over the reel seat ready to strike, using fingers to stop the rotor from 'back spinning'.

Engaging the conventional 'anti-reverse lever' preventing the reel 'back spinning' can cause a problem when you need to disengage the 'anti-reverse lever' quickly on a sudden take to allow 'back wind' to give the fish some line.

 

This major technological advancement originally designed by Real Ideas, has now been developed and incorporated into reels by market leaders Okuma offering a third choice to the angler.
This new feature when employed, offers the benefit of automatically releasing the anti-reverse lever with a slightest forward rotation of the reel handle.

This means, the angler can confidently use anti-reverse 'on' (in the centre 3 P-A-R position) in conjunction with the drag clutch set to slip on a take but also have the comfort of knowing he can release the anti-reverse without struggling for the lever if the clutch does not slip, which can be extremely useful with lighter hook lengths.

You can be quicker on the strike as you can go straight for the reel seat without the need to 'finger the rotor'. On most bites a little line is taken up after the strike and the anti-reverse will be 'automatically released' without thinking so the reel is ready to pay line if you need to.
For river techniques, especially Chub and Barbel, this should soon be recognized as a 'must have' feature.
